Kindergarten Registration and Assessment

All Tecumseh Local Kindergartners will attend school at Donnelsville Elementary for the 2012/2013 school year.  Students should be registered for kindergarten March 26 - 30 or April 9 -13 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily.   

The following items are needed for registration:

·      Official Birth Certificate (Not hospital record)

·      Social Security Number

·      Immunization Records

·      Custody Papers if applicable

·      Parent Photo Identification

·      Proof of Residency or Open Enrollment Application on file

Kindergarten Assessment

Kindergarten Assessment will take place by appointment on August 6, 7, and 8 at Donnelsville Elementary.  Parents will sign up for an assessment appointment when registering their child for kindergarten.  After the child is assessed, parents will have a short conference with a district staff member to go over results and to answer any questions.  The entire process takes approximately 60 - 90 minutes.  

The Kindergarten Schedule

Kindergarten is an all-day, every other day program at Tecumseh Local.  Students are assigned to one of the following schedules:

·      Kindergarten A - Monday/Wednesday and some Fridays schedule

·      Kindergarten B - Tuesday/Thursday and some Fridays schedule.

School begins on August 22 for students in grades 1-12.  

To accommodate the needs of Tecumseh Local’s youngest students, the first two days of school are designed to gradually introduce kindergartners to school.  We have had success in creating a comfortable and inviting environment for children with the kindergarten phase-in. 

On the first two days of school, Wednesday, August 22, and Thursday, August 23, parents and their kindergartners will attend scheduled group conferences that will last approximately an hour and a half.  You may request that your child attend school on the Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule as needed to accommodate your work, school or childcare schedules.  You may also request either the 9:00 am or 12:30 pm group conference time on the phase-in days to best meet your schedule.   These requests can be made known at kindergarten assessment.

On Friday, August 24, the regular kindergarten schedule will begin.  We encourage you to help your child learn routines and develop independence by allowing him/her to ride the bus on their first regular day so that they will learn their bus number and learn about school bus safety with the rest of their classmates.  Bus transportation information, including bus number, pick-up times, and drop-off times, can be found on the district website after August 11 at www.tecumseh.k12.oh.us/.  Routes will also be posted on the front doors at each elementary building.
