Attention Parents:

The annual vision and hearing screenings will be held on the following days:

Donnelsville and New Carlisle: September 15th and 16th.

Park Layne: September 23rd and 24th.

Tecumseh Middle School and Tecumseh High School: September 29th and 30th.

Why is it important to have your child’s vision screened?

1. To identify if your child has vision problems or might be at risk for vision problems.

Vision screening will consist of any of the following tests:

1. Observation (all grades).

2. Monocular Distance Visual Acuity (K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11).

3. Ocular Muscle Balance test (first grade).

4. Stereopsis test (kindergarten and first grade).

5. Color Deficiency test (males only, in kindergarten or first grade).

If your child passes the vision screening, you may not be contacted by the school nurse.  A vision screening provides only a snapshot of how your child performs on the day the test was administered and is not a substitute for a complete eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist.

If your child fails the screening, you will be informed of test results either the day of or the day following screenings.  It is pertinent that your child is at school on these days and that they are wearing their glasses if they have them.

Hearing screenings will be conducted on grades (1, 3, 5, 9, 11).  If your child fails the first hearing screening they will be re-screened in four to six weeks.  If they fail the second screening a hearing referral and report will be sent home asking you to follow up.
