Donneslville Elementary Honors Veterans

Donnelsville students and staff had the privilege of welcoming more than 150 guests at the school’s annual Veterans Day program in November.

The school kicked off the day by inviting veterans to the building for breakfast with their child or grandchild, followed by a program honoring the veterans. Mrs. Savage’s 3rd graders recited a Veterans Day poem and several students read poems or letters that they had written to honor a veteran in their own life.

One special aspect of Donnesville’s Veterans Day program is that veterans are invited to go back to classrooms and read a book to the students about Veterans Day. Veterans read a story chosen by the teacher and then answered questions that the students were eager to ask about what it was like to be a veteran. Many stories were told and experiences shared with the children. Adorning the halls were appreciative notes written by students and lots of red, white, and blue. Donnelsville Elementary is proud to honor and recognize our veterans, and to share this special time with them each year.
