New Outdoor Education Space Honors Donnelsville Employee's Memory

Donnelsville Elementary transformed space at the west end of the building to a new reading garden/outdoor classroom area. With the help of PTO, Donnelsville was able to purchase seating for the space and raised garden beds will be ready this fall for teachers and students to plant and harvest flowers and, vegetables.

The staff decided to revitalize the space for a new use to enhance opportunities for Donnelsville students and ensure our grounds are put to the best use for our students. Board Member Mr. Peter Scarff donated two trees for the new outdoor classroom in honor of staff member Colleen Moore, who passed away last summer. Colleen was a longtime volunteer and then staff member at TLS, sharing her love of reading with students in her daughters’ classrooms (Beth and Amy Moore). She also worked in the cafeteria at Donnelsville, tutored students one-on-one, and helped out in the office. Colleen Moore loved kids and the staff at Donnelsville wanted to honor her memory by placing this rock in our new reading garden.

We are excited to put this space to use and would love parents to come and check it out in the fall!
