Superintendent's Column: Thanks to our PTO!
From the Superintendent’s Desk
The Tecumseh Local District is fortunate to have a very active, successful and helpful Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO conducts various fundraisers during the year to be able to fund projects benefiting students and staff that would not be able to take place otherwise due to budgetary limitations.
Sometimes the PTO purchases instructional items for the classroom or equipment for the playground. In addition, grant dollars are available to teachers who write requests for special projects. The PTO meets once per month at the middle school, and the 2016-17 officers are President - Brandi Diehl, Vice President - Natalie Jackson, Treasurer - Missy Carnes and Secretary - Brandy Triplett. Thank you to these ladies and so many others who work so hard on behalf of our students and staff members!
In the past 10-15 years, many school districts (including ours) have cut or limited field trips due to finances. These trips often allow many of our students to experience something that they might not have the opportunity to experience if not for our school district.
Consequently, we were very happy when we learned that the PTO agreed to fund field trips for students in grades K-5 this year. The teachers selected these trips for students for 2016-17:
K: Learning Tree Farm
1: Ohio Caverns
2: Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm
3: One Room Schoolhouse and Carillon Historical Park
4: Victoria Theater and Thomas Cloud Park
5: Sun Watch (Indian Village/Archaeological Park)
Some trips have already taken place, and some are scheduled for later in the year. The students get very excited for these trips, and they benefit greatly from the experiences derived from them.
You can become part of this great work by attending PTO meetings, getting directly involved in the cause, and by supporting the PTO fundraisers during the year. The major fundraiser of the year is fast approaching. This year’s Safari-themed PTO Festival will take place on Friday, April 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Tecumseh Middle School. Games, food, prizes and a live auction will be featured. Make plans to attend!
PTO members, thank you for all that you do for our students and staff members! Keep up the great work!
