Tecumseh Board Enhances School Safety

The Tecumseh Local School District Board of Education, Clark County Commissioners, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office are partnering on a new safety initiative to provide a full-time School Resource Officer for the district.

The Tecumseh Local School District Board of Education, Clark County Commissioners, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office are partnering on a new safety initiative to provide a full-time School Resource Officer for the district.
The district approached the commissioners and the sheriff’s office with an idea to pilot a full-time safety officer program for the 2018-19 school year. The district offered to commit to paying a portion of the cost and asked commissioners to consider matching that investment.
In April, the board and the commissioners voted to approve the SRO expenses with the county commissioners covering more than half the cost. The district will utilize savings from cost-savings measures implemented next year to cover its portion of the expenses, and the Clark County Sheriff's Department has offered the use of a vehicle for the SRO, fuel, and equipment free-of-charge.
The next step in the process is to interview applicants, who are all experienced law enforcement officers currently working for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The district anticipates that the new school resource officer will be in place in August, prior to the start of the new school year.  The deputy will keep an office at Tecumseh High School but will be active in each building.
We greatly appreciate the support of our Tecumseh Local Board of Education members, the Clark County Sheriff's Department and the Clark County Commissioners for their commitment and support with this pilot program.
