Park Layne Ready for Class of 2030

Park Layne Elementary School is ready for a great new year with our students, families, and staff for the 2017-18 school year!

Park Layne Elementary School is ready for a great new year with our students, families, and staff for the 2017-18 school year! As our new class of students enter it’s hard to believe, but we’ll be preparing this first class to graduate in the 30s - the 2030s that is! Yes, this year’s kindergarten class will graduate in 2030. We are up to the challenge as we look forward to implementing our newly-purchased reading series that will be used across all the elementary buildings and will allow us to align our reading instruction throughout the students’ educational career. In addition to an abundance of print material, students will also have access to the materials in digital form that they will be able to access from school or home.

We are excited to move into our second year with the Lucy Calkins Writing program that gives our youngest Arrows so many opportunities to express themselves and develop writing skills right from the start of kindergarten. We were so pleased to see the progress students made last year when given the opportunity to write daily with lessons from the program, and look forward to seeing our first graders continue to develop as young writers!

Thanks to a generous donation from our Tecumseh Elementary PTO, a new swing set will be installed in the coming weeks. There is always a line of students waiting for a turn on the swings, so this is a welcome addition to our playground. Speaking of our PTO, this organization is a great way to get involved in your child’s school experience and to meet other Tecumseh parents. PTO will be set up at Open House on August 15 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Visit them online and look for more information there including PTO meeting dates.
