Donnelsville Identifies Priorities for 2017-18 School Year

Donnelsville elementary is back at it and having a great school year already! The school has identified two priorities to focus on this school year to maximize learning: implementation of the new reading series and expansion of positive behavior rewards.

Donnelsville elementary is back at it and having a great school year already! We have 473 second and third graders who are coming to school ready to learn each day, and our teachers and staff are prepared and excited to help them grow this year!

This year, Donnelsville Elementary has identified two areas of focus that will help our students maximize their learning. The first is our new reading series called Wonders. This is Tecumseh’s first new reading series in more than 20 years and teachers are excited about this new resource in their classrooms. The online component that accompanies the series is a great asset for our teachers and families. Teachers can use these online features in many different ways, including projecting the selections on the screens in their rooms while the teacher reads to students and highlighting and defining vocabulary words. With such a robust addition to our curriculum, our hopes are that we are able to reach each student with materials and strategies that will help them become better readers and better at comprehension this school year.

Another era of focus for us at Donnelsville this year will be revamping our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). A team of staff members is creating ways to “grow the green” here at Donnelsville Elementary. As many of our parents know, being on “green” means the students are being respectful, responsible, peaceful, problem solvers, and learners. Through incentives and recognizing those students who work hard daily at being the best they can be, we hope to increase the number of students who attend monthly awards for “green” behavior. Our first monthly reward will be in September and we will be playing sponge ball outside and having popsicles. We would love some parent volunteers to help out with the fun for monthly rewards!
