Donnelsville Focuses on Writing

A key focus for 2nd and 3rd graders this year is to become better writers. Our teachers expose our students to many different kinds of writing. We work on writing good sentences with detail and proper mechanics (capitalization and punctuation) and work our way into writing 4-5 sentence paragraphs that cover one topic in 3rd grade.

A key focus for 2nd and 3rd graders this year is to become better writers. Our teachers expose our students to many different kinds of writing.     The state test in English Language Arts in 3rd grade requires that the students are able to compose an essay in the writing portion of the test.
The essay may be an opinion essay or an informative / explanatory essay. These multi-paragraph essay questions from the state require the students to be able to go back into a story and pull information that appropriately fits their essay. Good graphic organizers  help the students organize their thoughts before they write.

If you have visited our halls, you have seen some examples of student writing. We are constantly striving to become better writers at Donnelsville. Please ask your child what they are working on in writing in class.
