Tecumseh Examines Report Card Results

District Report Cards were released on September 14th. Although Tecumseh Local’s report cards for the last several years do not look like they did previously, we ask that staff, parents and stakeholders keep in mind that we are in the midst of a shift in state expectations with standards and indicators measured on the report card.

District Report Cards were released on September 14th. Although Tecumseh Local’s report cards for the last several years do not look like they did previously, we ask that staff, parents and stakeholders keep in mind that we are in the midst of a shift in state expectations with standards and indicators measured on the report card. Our teachers and staff have been required to administer three different assessments in the past four years by the state. As the standards have become more rigorous and proficiency levels have increased, we have experienced a drop in test scores with other districts in the state.

However, effective teaching strategies and learning are taking place in our school district. Our internal progress monitoring tools indicate that student growth is taking place Staff began to administer a district progress monitoring tool titled NWEA Maps last year for students in grades 1-8, and that was expanded to grade nine this year. The utilization of this three-times-per-year assessment of individual and student growth data permits teachers to focus on individual and collective deficiencies and adjust lesson planning as appropriate.

Additionally, teachers are being provided time this fall to review the state’s revisions to the English and math standards. Mr. Foley, our curriculum specialist, is leading this initiative.

Finally, our District Leadership Team, comprised of administrators and teacher representatives from each building continue to emphasize and further the development of research-based teaching strategies and initiatives proven to promote academic growth for students. The Building Leadership Teams support the goals and implement the initiatives of the District Leadership Team.

We strive to have a District Report Card that is reflective of the exceptional teaching and learning that happens in our classrooms each day. As a district we will continue to be purposeful in our efforts to maximize student learning.
