Eighth Grade students toured our nation’s capital, Washington, DC, from November 18 through 21. Students linked social studies content to real world experiences as they visited many historical sites on day one, including the World War II Memorial, the Korean Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial and a White House photo stop.
During the trip, students also visited Arlington National Cemetery and participated in the wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Later in the day, students visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum and ended the day at the Medieval Times Dinner Theater. Day three included visits to the U.S. Capitol Buildings, National Archives Building and Smithsonian Museums before visiting Ford’s Theatre. The day concluded with a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Franklin D. Rosevelt Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. The final day of the trip was a visit to Mount Vernon. A special thank you goes out to 8th grade teacher Christi Leggett, who organized this year’s trip.
