Medway Drinking Water Source

September 27, 2024

Dear Medway School Employees & Neighbors:

I am reaching out to provide important information regarding the Drinking Water Source Protection Area and to highlight our responsibility in protecting the quality of our local water sources.

I am reaching out to provide important information regarding the Drinking Water Source Protection Area (See Map MW-H2O.pdf) and to highlight our responsibility in protecting the quality of our local water sources.

As you may know, a Drinking Water Source Protection Area is a designated area that contributes water to public drinking water supplies. At Medway it is located on our property near the well in the front of the building.  We have a fence around this area to minimize any potential risks of access. Protecting this area from contamination is essential not only for the health and safety of our community but also for compliance with environmental regulations.

Potential Contaminant Sources

Some common activities and materials that could pose a risk to water quality include:

  • Storage and Handling of Chemicals: Ensure all chemicals are stored safely and properly labeled.

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Be mindful of spills from oils, fuels, and other fluids.

  • Waste Management: Properly dispose of waste and never dump any materials into drains or on the ground.

  • Use of Fertilizers and Pesticides: Follow best practices to prevent runoff and minimize usage.

How You Can Help

We ask all employees to:

  1. Report any spills or leaks immediately to the Building Head Custodian.

  2. Follow the district’s guidelines for handling and storing hazardous materials.

  3. Avoid disposing of any waste near storm drains, catch basins, or on the ground.

  4. Participate in any available federal/state/local training related to water source protection offered by the EPA.

By adhering to these practices, we can collectively protect our drinking water sources and contribute to a safer environment for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to safeguarding our community’s health. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to reach out to me.

Sincerely,
Brian C. Dixon
