Delays & Closings

Weather Delays and Closings

At Tecumseh Local Schools, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Weather conditions or other emergencies can sometimes require delays or closures of schools or the entire district. Here’s what you need to know to stay informed:

How Decisions Are Made

We monitor weather forecasts, road conditions, and other safety factors to determine whether a delay or closure is necessary. Our goal is to make these decisions as early as possible to give families time to plan.

Types of Schedule Changes

  1. Delayed Start: School start times may be delayed by 2 hours to allow for improved conditions. Latchkey services will open based on the delay.

  2. Early Dismissal: If weather conditions worsen during the day, students may be sent home early. Afternoon latchkey services will be canceled.

  3. Full Closure: If conditions are unsafe for the entire day, schools or the district will close.

How to Stay Informed

  • District Website: Visit the district main page for real-time updates and emergency pop-ups.

  • ParentSqaure Alerts: Ensure your contact information is up to date to receive text, email, or phone notifications from ParentSqaure

  • Social Media: Follow our official Facebook site for announcements.

  • Local News Outlets: Updates will also be shared with local TV stations (channels 2, 7, 22, and 45).

What You Should Do

  • Have a plan in place for child care in case of delays or closures.

  • Dress your child appropriately for cold weather, as buses may run slightly behind schedule during delays.

  • Discuss your family’s emergency plan with your child to ensure they know what to do in case of an early dismissal.

By staying prepared and informed, we can work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school office or the district office.
