Helping Us Keep Students Safe: Office Communication Procedures

Helping Us Keep Students Safe: Office Communication Procedures

We need your help with an important safety and communication procedure.

If you need to make any transportation changes, communicate time-sensitive information or needs for your child, you must contact the school office directly not the classroom teacher.

Our teachers are actively teaching throughout the day and may not see emails, messages, or app notifications in time to act on them. In addition, when a teacher is absent and a substitute is in the classroom, messages sent to the teacher may not be received at all. This can result in important information being missed and creates safety concerns for students.

The most reliable and safest way to ensure your message is received and acted upon is to call the school office. Office staff immediately communicate changes to the appropriate staff members and ensure your child’s needs are handled correctly.
Please help us keep all students safe and dismissal running smoothly by contacting the office first for:
  • Transportation changes
  • Medication / medical information
  • Early pick-ups
  • Any urgent or same-day student needs

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us support a safe and organized school day for all students.

Positive Referrals

At NCES, students have the opportunity to earn positive referrals from staff for going above and beyond. We are incredibly proud of those students who have received positive referrals each month!
When students earn a positive referral, their photo is taken and they receive a special reward, either a bracelet, candy, or a pencil. In addition, their photo is proudly displayed in the hallway and they are recognized during our morning announcements (available on our YouTube channel). It's a truly exciting moment for our students!
WAY TO GO, KIDS!!!
You’re setting a great example for others.
Keep up the amazing work!

Just a reminder if you have made any changes to your phone number, address, or other contact information, please update your records in Final Forms as soon as possible. Keeping your information current ensures that we can reach you promptly when needed.

Attendance Matters So Much!

Every Day Counts!

We would like to take a moment to stress just how critical daily, full-day school attendance is to your child’s academic success. Being at school all day, every day ensures that students receive complete instruction, actively participate in learning, and build the strong academic habits necessary for long-term achievement.
When students are absent — even for part of the day — they miss essential instruction, classroom discussions, guided practice, and opportunities to collaborate with peers. These learning experiences cannot always be recreated, and missed time can quickly lead to gaps in understanding, difficulty keeping up with assignments, and decreased academic progress. Consistent, full-day attendance also fosters responsibility, routine, and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
We understand that absences due to illness or emergencies are sometimes unavoidable, and we appreciate your communication in those instances. However, appointments such as doctor or dentist visits should not require a full day absence. Students are expected to attend school before and/or after their appointment whenever possible. We strongly encourage families to schedule appointments early in the morning or later in the afternoon to minimize missed instructional time.
Your partnership is essential in helping your child develop the habits and commitment needed for success. Ensuring that students are present, on time, and in school for the entire day makes a significant difference in their academic growth.
Thank you for your continued support. Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.

What is a Culture Playbook?

A culture playbook is a shared guide that explains what our school community believes in and how we work together every day. It outlines our core values, expectations, and common practices so that students, staff, and families all have a clear understanding of what our school culture looks like in action.
In our school setting, the culture playbook helps define how we treat one another, how we support student learning and behavior, and how we partner with families. It provides consistency across classrooms and grade levels, reinforces positive behaviors, and ensures that everyone is working toward the same goals. For parents, it serves as a transparent reference for what to expect from the school and how to support those expectations at home.

Building Strong Habits for Success

Our students are focusing on acting with purpose, being their best selves, and continuing to work hard—even when things feel challenging. We are encouraging students to set goals, stay motivated, and take pride in their learning.
We are also emphasizing the importance of caring for ourselves, building confidence, and developing a growth mindset. Students are learning that effort, practice, and learning from mistakes help them grow and improve.
Finally, we are reinforcing perseverance and problem-solving. Growth often requires stepping outside of our comfort zone, and students are encouraged to keep going, learn from challenges, and never give up.
At Tecumseh Local Schools, we are committed to excellence and believe that hard work, resilience, and a passion for growth help all students succeed.

Reminder about our Homework and Make-Up Work Policy

We want to ensure students stay on track when they are absent, and we appreciate your support in this process. Lately, we have had a high number of requests for homework to be sent home immediately. Please understand that our teachers are in the classroom teaching all day, and preparing homework packets takes time. To ensure requests are completed accurately, homework requests must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance.
Homework Requests: Homework requests will be accepted for students who have been absent two or more consecutive days. No additional homework requests will be processed until previously requested assignments have been returned completed. All homework sent home is due upon the student’s return to school.

Make-Up Work: Upon returning to school after an absence, students are responsible for contacting each teacher to obtain any necessary make-up work. Assignments must be completed by the date designated by the teacher, typically one day per day of absence. Please remember that make-up work is the student’s responsibility, not the teacher’s.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our teachers balance preparing make-up work with providing instruction for all students. Your support helps us ensure that every student receives the attention and guidance they need to succeed.

Most importantly, our goal is for students to get better and return to school as soon as possible, because regular attendance is critical to their learning and overall success. While make-up work helps keep students on track, nothing can fully replace being present in class, participating in lessons, and engaging with peers.

Our Homework Policy is In the Elementary Handbook on page 20.

Bookfair was a great success. Thank you for participating.

Thank you for your participation!

Safer Ohio School Tip Line

Safer Ohio School Tip Line
The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts both calls and texts 24 hours a day.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.
Things to report to the tip line include (but are not limited to):
  • Bullying incidents;
  • Withdrawn student behaviors;
  • Verbal or written threats observed toward students, faculty or schools;
  • Weapon/suspicious devices on or near school grounds;
  • Gang related activities;
  • Unusual/suspicious behavior of students or staff;
  • Self-harm or suicidal sentiments; and
  • Any other school safety related concerns.
Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts within Ohio Homeland Security. If action is needed, the analysts immediately forward information to local school officials, law enforcement agencies and the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) for action and follow up.
The OSSC partners with the Ohio Department of Education to follow up with affected school and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the incident is investigated, action is taken and resources and supports are provided when necessary.

Tecumseh Education Connection

The Education Connection is a telephone number that you can call 24-hours a day to listen to your child’s homework assignments, report your child’s absence, hear the lunch menu, find out the scores of the big game, hear about school closings and leave a private message for a staff member.

You will still need to call your child in if they will not be attending school, or doing their online work for the day. We will still need to document attendance. We are marking students with green, yellow and red attendance.

Please use the TEC number for:

  • Calling your child in sick.
  • Leave a voicemail with questions.
  • 937-845-4483
