THS School Nurse Home

The Clinic

  • If your child requires medication during the school day, please review the following important guidelines:

    • Doctor’s Order and Parent Permission: All medications, including prescription and over-the-counter, must have a written doctor’s order and parent permission on file. This is a state law requirement.

    • Inhalers and Emergency Medications: Students who carry inhalers or other emergency medications must have the appropriate forms on file in the nurse's office. This ensures compliance with state law and supports your child’s health needs.

    • Carrying Medications: Students are not permitted to carry any medications (prescription or over-the-counter) on school property unless the proper paperwork is on file in the clinic.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the school nurse by phone or email.

    End of the School Year

Please plan to pick up your child’s medication by their last day of school. The school is unable to store medications over the summer, and any remaining medications will be discarded.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and healthy school environment!

Additional Information    Immunizations by Grade Level

  • In Accordance with Tecumseh Local School Guidelines:

No child, at the time of initial entry or at the beginning of each school year, shall be permitted to remain in school for more than fourteen (14) school days unless the child presents written evidence that s/he has been immunized or is "in the process of being immunized". "In the process of being immunized" means the student has been immunized against mumps, rubeola, rubella, and chicken pox, and if the student has not been immunized against polio, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, and hepatitis B, the student has received at least the first dose of the immunization sequence, and presents written evidence to the principal or Superintendent of each subsequent dose required to obtain immunization at the intervals prescribed by the Director of Health.

Any student previously admitted under auspices of "in the process of being immunized" who has not complied with the prescribed immunization intervals shall be excluded from school on the fifteenth (15th) school day of the following school year. The excluded student shall be readmitted upon showing evidence to the principal or Superintendent of progress on the prescribed immunization interval schedule.

  • Tecumseh Local School district is committed to supporting student health and success through regular vision and hearing screenings. These screenings help identify potential issues early, ensuring every student has the tools they need to thrive in the classroom. Parents will be notified if follow-up care is recommended. For more information, please contact your child’s school nurse or access the link below.

  • Students requiring the use of an elevator or wheelchair must provide a written note from a doctor or athletic trainer to the nurse, specifying the reason and duration of use. Upon approval, the student will receive an elevator pass, which must remain visible during its use.

When the student no longer requires the elevator or wheelchair, they must return the pass to the clinic. All students using these accommodations are expected to adhere to the student code of conduct, and any misuse or abuse may result in disciplinary action.

For safety reasons, elevators must not be used during fire or tornado drills, or in the event of an actual fire or tornado. Instead, students should proceed to the mezzanine area near the elevator and wait for assistance from a staff member.

Your cooperation helps ensure safety and accessibility for everyone.

Welcome to the Clinic

The school nurse is here to support the health and well-being of all students. The clinic provides essential services to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment. Here’s an overview of important topics related to clinic policies and resources:

Immunizations
State law requires all students to have up-to-date immunizations to attend school. If your child needs immunizations or updates, please provide the clinic with the proper documentation. Contact the school nurse if you have questions about immunization requirements or need assistance accessing immunization services.

Medications
For students who require medications during the school day, a completed medication authorization form signed by a parent/guardian and healthcare provider must be submitted to the nurse. All medications, including over-the-counter drugs, must be provided in their original containers and kept in the clinic.

Forms
If your child has a medical condition such as asthma, diabetes, or severe allergies, please ensure that the necessary health forms are completed and submitted at the beginning of the school year. These forms help the nurse create a care plan to support your child's health needs.

Elevator Use
Students with temporary or permanent mobility issues may request an elevator pass through the clinic. A note from a healthcare provider may be required to issue a pass. This ensures that students can move safely and comfortably around the school.

Bed Bugs and Head Lice
If a student is found to have bed bugs or head lice, the nurse will provide guidance and resources to address the issue. Students may return to school after treatment has begun. Confidentiality is always maintained, and the school works to prevent the spread of pests while supporting families in managing the situation.

Community Resources
The clinic has access to a variety of community resources, including local health clinics, food banks, and counseling services. If your family needs assistance, the school nurse can connect you with these supports.

The school nurse and clinic staff are dedicated to fostering a healthy and supportive school environment. If you have questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic. We’re here to help!
