Learning For All ~ Whatever It Takes!

Transportation

Transportation

We have worked hard to devise safe and efficient procedures for arrival and dismissal times with an emphasis on safety.  We ask for your continued patience as you navigate the system.  Please make sure the school office is aware of any transportation changes immediately.  Your child's busing will be based upon what they did the previous year unless you tell us otherwise.

AM Drop Off Times
8:30 am    Students in grades 2-5 catching a transport bus to DN or NC and their K-1 siblings only
8:40 am    Students eating breakfast at school
8:55 am    Students going straight to class
9:10 am     Tardy Bell

AM Drop Off Procedures

Preferred - Pull to the curb and have students exit the vehicle independently on the curbside. DO NOT PARK ON THE CURB AND EXIT YOUR VEHICLE FOR ANY REASON. The curb is to be used only for students who can be independent and exit the vehicle on the curbside without adult assistance.  Once students are out of your vehicle and moving up the sidewalk, please proceed so that others may pull to the curb.  Please note that staff members are on duty out front and at the front doors to monitor and greet students.

Alternate - If your child is not independent with unbuckling and getting out of the vehicle, or if you wish to walk your child to the front doors, you must park against the front of the parked cars and walk students by the hand across the drive using the crosswalk.

PM Pick-up Times
3:25 pm    First Round - Students without older siblings arriving from DN or NC (Green Placards)
3:40 am    Second Round - Students with older siblings arriving on a transport bus from DN or NC                    (Orange Placards)

PM Pick-up Procedures
If a student is being picked up we ask that ALL PARENTS IN VEHICLES REMAIN IN THEIR VEHICLE. Please follow the route detailed in the link at the bottom.  Each Parent Pick-Up student has been given 2 colored placards/signs. If more than one person routinely picks up your child, one can be shared with the other pick-up person.  Additional placards may be requested.

Parents should place their placard(s) in the front window of their vehicle and a staff member will radio in for the child.  Students should enter the vehicle on the curbside.  If this is not possible, parents must walk around to the sidewalk and walk their child around to enter the vehicle on the driver's side.  Please note that this is a driveway and this is required to ensure student safety

Front Door Pick-up Procedures - Walk Zone Students Only

Parents who WALK to pick up students will pick up students at the front doors. The only students who should be picked up at the front doors should be students in the Walk Zone at Park Layne.

Occasional Parent Pick-up
If a child is just a parent pickup for the day, parents must park in a parking space and go into the school to sign the child out.  All transportation changes should be made in writing.  In emergencies, parents may call the school office before 2:00 p.m. to make a change.  Realize that every transportation change brings with it the chance that your child will get confused and a mistake will be made.  Please work with us to keep your child's transportation plan constant throughout the week and the year.
